Our Purpose

The Snohomish County Historic Preservation Commission exists to identify, evaluate, and designate historic resources, protect archaeological and historic resources, provide historic preservation information services, establish one or more classes of historic property eligible for special valuation and to foster civic pride in the beauty and accomplishments of the past, and a sense of identity with county history.

During the 2019 Evergreen State Fair, The Snohomish County Historic Preservation Commission was excited to add the Shannahan Cabin to the County Register of Historic Places, the first of many properties to be added. Read about the cabin and the register in an article written by the Everett Herald here.

2019 Centennial Trail History Walk

On July 20th, the Snohomish County Historic Preservation Commission hosted the 3rd annual Centennial Trail History Walk at the Machias Trail Head. The Commission had artifacts and displays put together to show the history of the trail which at one time was a bustling railroad line. In addition to this, the commission was joined by the Lake Stevens Historical Society, the Everett Museum of History, and the Sauk-Suiattle Tribe. The event had activities for adults and kids to learn about their past!

Look for this fun event next Summer!
